Stephen G. Bassett — American political activist; the first and only registered federal lobbyist on UFO/UAP “Disclosure” in the United States. A former tennis pro and business consultant who became interested in ufology in 1995 after reading John E. Mack’s Abduction and briefly volunteering with Mack’s Program for Extraordinary Experience Research (PEER).

Career

  • 1996: registered as a UFO lobbyist (a status he held essentially alone for 20–25+ years) and founded the Paradigm Research Group (PRG) — a single-issue, pro-”Disclosure” advocacy organization (Disclosure = the U.S. government formally acknowledging an extraterrestrial presence).
  • 2013: organized the “Citizen Hearing on Disclosure” at the National Press Club — a five-day mock congressional hearing with six former members of Congress paid to preside and 42 witnesses from 10 countries.
  • Long-running activity tracking media coverage, lobbying registrations, and political developments; a fixture on the disclosure-conference and podcast circuit; coined/popularized the term “truth embargo” for the alleged government-and-media suppression of the ET reality.

Key features for assessment

  • Self-identified advocate, not a witness or researcher — transparent that he is a “disclosure advocate.”
  • Begs the central question: “It’s not about science. We proved it.” — he treats the ET presence as already established and the only remaining task as political acknowledgment.
  • Media strategy over traditional lobbying: “I didn’t do a lot of lobbying in the traditional sense; I lobbied the media.” The lobbyist registration itself was a publicity device (the press tracks registrations).
  • The “truth embargo” is an unfalsifiable frame: the absence of Disclosure is itself read as evidence of suppression.
  • A long record of “imminent Disclosure” expectation across ~28 years that has not materialized.
