should study it [00:00:27.599] i think where we as a country have not [00:00:30.880] lived up to what i believe the [00:00:33.440] expectations of american people [00:00:36.000] we have some unknown things [00:00:39.280] that we we have some things we don’t [00:00:40.719] understand and we’re not doing nearly [00:00:43.440] enough to study them [00:00:45.200] i was fortunate when i was in the senate [00:00:47.600] i got a lot of money [00:00:49.120] to study uh these [00:00:52.239] unidentified flying objects it was [00:00:55.120] really good for the country [00:00:56.960] but it’s gone now we’re not studying it [00:00:59.280] and [00:01:00.960] we’re now having more sightings than we [00:01:04.080] had before the reason we’re having more [00:01:05.680] sightings is because [00:01:07.200] some of the pilots are unafraid now they [00:01:09.040] come forward and talking about it [00:01:10.799] which they didn’t have before they were [00:01:12.080] afraid they were hurting their [00:01:13.360] promotions [00:01:14.479] so i do believe that there’s a lot more [00:01:16.960] work needs to be done in this i’m [00:01:19.920] disappointed that more is not being done sort of a download on [00:01:29.840] this [00:01:30.159] and it it’s amazing to me how little uh [00:01:34.000] is known about the topic among among [00:01:36.799] people at that level they just don’t pay [00:01:38.400] attention to it [00:01:40.000] well people are afraid to [00:01:44.320] deal with things they don’t understand [00:01:47.520] i always kind of like to do that [00:01:50.640] because i believe that you know you have [00:01:53.520] a capacity as a [00:01:54.640] legislator that you should do what [00:01:58.320] they would do your constituents if they [00:02:01.119] were in your position [00:02:02.640] so i know there are a lot of people [00:02:04.159] concerned about doing more work on this [00:02:06.560] but there’s nothing being done [00:02:08.239] and that is unfortunate have you had any [00:02:10.160] success in getting the attention [00:02:11.920] of other members of the senate or [00:02:13.840] congress or their staff in taking a look [00:02:16.080] at this issue an [00:04:18.720] interest in this for decades [00:04:20.400] and you have you’ve helped me a lot and [00:04:22.479] uh and you’ve had an [00:04:24.720] even if it’s just your own curiosity said i got this [00:04:38.240] letter [00:04:39.759] i’m going to send it to you and you sent [00:04:41.199] it to me with a courier [00:04:43.120] it was from a government agency [00:04:46.639] and they wanted to go [00:04:50.720] look at some of this man’s property [00:04:53.840] and they did it and that was where my [00:04:57.600] uh focus really became determined [00:05:01.919] this is something we need to take a look [00:05:03.600] at i don’t know and [00:05:05.759] whenever i have an interview i say if [00:05:08.639] you want to talk about [00:05:10.160] scientifically i’ll do it [00:05:30.400] was one where uh she talked about [00:05:34.000] science and why aren’t we doing more and [00:05:35.840] that’s something i still [00:05:38.080] am frustrated about you’ve used that [00:05:40.479] quote about [00:05:41.360] you’re not sure that there are little [00:05:42.800] green men you don’t necessarily believe [00:05:44.320] in that [00:05:44.960] we don’t know fact is we don’t know what [00:05:46.639] it is right or where they’re from [00:05:48.400] we do not know what what i have [00:05:52.000] learned is you cannot just hide your [00:05:55.520] head and say it does in my opinion this is something that we [00:08:04.800] should be studying [00:08:06.400] and as i said it’s a worldwide [00:08:08.560] phenomenon [00:08:09.840] not just here in the united states [00:09:03.040] giving testimony about what they’ve seen [00:09:05.360] is there to your knowledge i know i’ve [00:09:08.160] asked [00:09:09.600] members of the senate to take a look at [00:09:12.560] some of the stuff their staff has seen [00:09:14.720] i’ve got no reports they’ve done that [00:09:16.399] yet um [00:09:17.760] which is too bad it is an air it is a it [00:09:20.959] is a subject people are afraid of [00:09:23.519] they do not want their constituents to [00:09:26.399] say what why is he spending his time on [00:09:28.080] that [00:09:28.720] as you know and you’ve talked [00:09:46.800] i’m not great at math um [00:09:50.080] they didn’t give me a much of a [00:09:51.519] background in searchlight to [00:09:53.600] do that stuff but uh i am terribly [00:09:57.279] curious and interested and i wish more [00:09:59.279] people were [00:10:00.720] i’ve just to share with you a letter [00:10:02.480] this was released made public a week ago [00:10:04.320] through a freedom of information act [00:10:05.920] request [00:10:06.480] it was a request filed by your friend [00:10:08.640] john mccain [00:10:09.600] last year he asked for a list of all the [00:10:13.680] reports generated by the study that you [00:10:15.519] sponsored [00:10:16.640] did you ever talk to john mccain about [00:10:18.079] typical john mccain [00:10:20.079] um he was head of the armed services [00:10:22.320] committee [00:10:23.760] and he knew everything was going on in [00:10:25.760] the country he was tireless in his work [00:10:28.560] how he he you know he died as he was [00:10:31.440] about 80. [00:10:32.720] but every weekend he went someplace [00:10:35.760] as part of his job overseas um [00:10:39.120] sure john knew what i was doing i mean [00:10:42.079] he didn’t [00:10:43.920] hide the fact that he was interested [00:10:45.440] also that’s why [00:10:47.120] that’s why he wrote the letter the the [00:10:49.760] reports that were listed that were [00:10:51.279] produced by that study there’s 38 of [00:10:53.440] them listed there they’re very [00:10:55.120] far out technology uh ideas what [00:10:57.680] technology would be like but they’ve [00:10:59.200] also [00:11:00.160] they blacked out some of the stuff in [00:11:02.480] the reports [00:11:04.720] here’s one of them for example this is a [00:11:06.480] study produced by [00:11:08.320] dr william culberth at unlv uh it’s a [00:11:11.839] detecting hypersonic vehicles which you [00:11:14.320] could understand [00:11:15.120] well the detection system would tell us [00:11:16.720] about ufos but could also tell us about [00:11:19.040] russian missiles that might be coming [00:11:20.399] our way [00:11:20.880] i mean there’s practical benefits to [00:11:22.399] these kinds of studies of course [00:11:27.519] you had given an interview uh last march [00:11:30.880] to a print journalist and talked about [00:11:32.800] the files and studies that had been [00:11:34.959] produced by [00:11:36.160] the program that you initiated not being [00:11:38.560] released [00:11:39.760] does it bother you that that information [00:11:41.519] is still being kept secret well i [00:11:43.200] i think that the purpose my purpose was [00:11:47.120] to learn more about this [00:11:49.440] and it’s clearly evident to me [00:11:53.279] that my learning more about it doesn’t [00:11:54.800] solve the problem [00:11:56.320] a lot of people should do this i would i [00:11:58.240] i think the study [00:11:59.440] for made public would draw attention [00:12:01.760] from academics at the university level [00:12:04.079] and i think the pentagon is a very very large [00:12:14.399] bureaucracy [00:12:15.760] and they’ve got a lot of things to deal [00:12:17.120] with and they don’t want something new [00:12:18.240] to deal with [00:12:19.680] you’ve seen the statements from the [00:12:21.120] pentagon about the end of [00:12:23.120] the program the study that was out here [00:12:24.800] in nevada based here in nevada [00:12:26.560] they said basically it ended because [00:12:28.800] they found nothing of interest [00:12:30.480] what do you think about that well maybe [00:12:33.600] they didn’t read the report [00:12:36.079] i mean it was a it was a [00:12:39.519] voluminous report with lots of good [00:12:42.720] stuff in it [00:12:43.920] and um that’s too bad they said that you [00:12:47.120] you just say that is false that it [00:12:48.880] didn’t oh yeah no question about it [00:12:50.320] there’s no question about it that [00:12:52.160] that letter is was written by somebody [00:12:54.639] that either [00:12:55.519] wasn’t telling the truth or didn’t know [00:12:57.200] the facts 2009 [00:12:59.279] you read wrote a letter to the secretary [00:13:01.519] of defense in which you [00:13:03.040] said we’d like to make this into a [00:13:05.279] special access [00:13:06.079] program we’ve got great stuff we’re [00:13:08.639] making great progress [00:13:09.839] we want to continue what was the [00:13:12.079] intention with making it into a special [00:13:14.320] access program [00:13:15.839] well there are certain things that we [00:13:18.160] had learned in our [00:13:20.240] work that there were places that we [00:13:22.560] needed to go [00:13:23.839] that people had certain things equipment [00:13:26.639] and other stuff [00:13:27.600] that we needed to see and you couldn’t [00:13:29.279] do it unless you got [00:13:30.720] clearance from the pentagon and they [00:13:32.480] wouldn’t give it to us [00:13:34.079] it suggests that maybe there are other [00:13:36.160] studies or programs that [00:13:37.760] uh that might shed light on this one [00:13:39.760] other programs that have been [00:13:43.519] done and information they have including [00:13:46.800] different um [00:13:48.480] pieces of evidence do you know what [00:13:51.440] those [00:13:51.920] pieces are no um [00:13:55.120] i’ve just only heard rumors and i’m [00:13:56.560] going to get into rumors but that’s why [00:13:58.160] i wanted [00:13:59.040] the special access to go there if i [00:14:01.760] couldn’t go and send my staff to look at [00:14:03.519] it [00:14:03.920] i’ve heard people say harry reid wanted [00:14:06.160] to turn this into a special access [00:14:07.760] program so it had no oversight [00:14:09.440] you’d take all that information to allowed [00:15:02.959] to continue how far along they would be [00:15:04.959] now [00:15:05.360] i mean you know we we [00:15:09.519] as a country or [00:15:15.600] we as a country are certainly not doing [00:15:18.160] what we should do [00:15:19.680] this is an area that is important to not [00:15:22.079] only our country but to the world [00:15:24.079] and i know that other countries are [00:15:26.639] doing [00:15:27.680] more than we’re doing and i think that [00:15:29.519] um that’s not good [00:15:32.320] there are those who think we’re on the [00:15:33.680] edge of disclosure that any day now [00:15:35.839] they’re going to open up the doors and [00:15:37.600] show us the saucers or open the files uh [00:15:40.720] i’m not as encouraged what about you [00:15:42.560] well i don’t think i’m even close to [00:15:44.240] that i think [00:15:45.040] until before we get to [00:15:48.959] that i think we need to do a little work [00:15:51.440] and we’re not doing enough scientific [00:15:53.360] research [00:15:55.279] and there are people hungry to do that [00:15:58.480] we have academics who are trained in all [00:16:00.800] the sciences [00:16:02.800] a grant to a college would be a [00:16:04.480] tremendous help [00:16:07.279] they could put it out to bid you know [00:16:09.199] like they do find out [00:16:10.560] who would who would do the best job but [00:16:13.279] the way it is now we’re [00:16:14.560] doing nothing you you’ve said about [00:16:17.680] you don’t think it’s little green men [00:16:19.440] and we had a lot of speculation about [00:16:21.920] where these vehicles are [00:16:23.279] are from they’re far more advanced than [00:16:25.040] anything known to us [00:16:26.959] is it possible that nobody really [00:16:28.480] there’s no one who knows the ultimate [00:16:30.000] answer what’s what the i think is now [00:16:31.839] and the [00:16:32.240] reason i’m so terribly interested in [00:16:35.680] this [00:16:36.160] because i don’t think no one has the [00:16:38.560] answers [00:16:39.279] and that is too bad because there are [00:16:41.360] answers out there [00:16:42.639] but they’re not going to get answers [00:16:43.759] just by hoping they come they can have [00:16:45.680] to take some work [00:16:48.399] the idea of disclosure or have you had [00:16:51.360] conversations with colleagues about the [00:16:53.440] wisdom of [00:16:54.320] letting all this loose is the public [00:16:56.079] ready for it [00:16:57.600] depends on what it is i guess i don’t [00:17:00.000] think that [00:17:00.639] congress can make this decision on their [00:17:02.480] own they could try to pass a law but [00:17:04.799] that would create a lot more problems [00:17:06.319] that [00:17:07.280] would solve because of big public debate [00:17:09.360] on this i don’t think at this stage [00:17:10.559] would do a lot of good [00:17:12.640] pentagon needs to get somebody within [00:17:15.600] the pentagon [00:17:16.480] that’s willing to do something that’s a [00:17:18.559] little different [00:17:19.679] you know there are multiple interests [00:17:21.199] there as as you learned with your [00:17:23.199] program there are [00:17:24.240] a variety of reasons why people would [00:17:25.919] oppose it religious grounds [00:17:27.760] or they just didn’t want to spend the [00:17:29.120] money or i [00:17:31.200] i don’t know maybe some people are [00:17:32.400] worried about the topic you know it’s [00:17:33.679] unbelievable [00:17:35.039] uh the military helped develop a i call [00:17:38.240] it a big x-ray machine [00:17:39.760] from an airplane you look see what’s in [00:17:41.840] the ground [00:17:43.039] archaeologists anthropologists have been [00:17:45.360] complaining [00:17:46.160] that’s unfair that’s not the way to get [00:17:48.480] things [00:17:49.440] done they want to go chop up like [00:17:52.720] chop up the jungle i guess [00:17:55.840] and that’s the same thing we’re having [00:17:57.520] here it’s people [00:17:59.120] don’t like to do things that are new and [00:18:00.640] different well that would include some [00:18:02.960] of the pentagon who opposed [00:18:04.480] your program for sure um [00:18:08.000] it would seem to me that even if [00:18:09.440] somebody in congress could get a new [00:18:11.280] program going they would still face a [00:18:13.120] lot of opposition [00:18:14.000] to it that there are those who don’t [00:18:15.840] want to go down this road this kind of [00:18:17.520] level of inquiry [00:18:21.840] there’s a rule in government if it [00:18:23.679] hasn’t been done before [00:18:25.600] we’re not going to do it now and that’s [00:18:28.799] admonition and certainly throughout the [00:18:32.000] would go all over the world so quickly [00:18:45.440] yeah i frankly was kind of surprised but [00:18:48.080] i was [00:18:48.720] satisfied when that first article was [00:18:51.520] written in the new york times [00:18:53.600] that the woman wrote from a scientific [00:18:56.160] perspective [00:18:57.039] and that’s what we need to do [00:19:00.640] um do you intend to stay active in this [00:19:03.600] i mean you had told me before you [00:19:05.200] consider it part of your legacy now that [00:19:06.880] you’re proud to be out in front on it [00:19:09.679] well i am a curious person [00:19:13.600] i feel [00:19:17.440] inadequate in the sciences for a lot of [00:19:20.480] reasons maybe i just didn’t have a [00:19:22.400] scientific mind but my background wasn’t [00:19:24.960] that good [00:19:26.799] to create an interest in it but i am [00:19:29.200] terribly interested now [00:19:32.080] and i just think that it’s something [00:19:34.480] that i’m going to try to [00:19:35.919] keep up on for as long as i can last [00:19:38.640] march you issued a challenge to [00:19:40.160] journalists you said look you reporters [00:19:41.919] should get off your butts and go find [00:19:43.440] these files find these studies because [00:19:45.440] it’s not classified [00:19:47.200] i think that modern day journalists [00:19:51.600] are like a lot of modern day politicians [00:19:56.720] they’re afraid to take chances [00:20:01.120] we need journalists who can be given a [00:20:04.720] free reign [00:20:06.000] to write a story more than four [00:20:08.159]
